A NEW HOUSE FOR HUMANITY: Building a house that honours each soul’s dignity

What if we are being called to build a house for our brothers and sisters, just as Joseph may have built a house for Mary during Jesus’ final days on Earth, a house he may have built to provide a place for his wife’s comfort, protection and well-being? What would be essential for this house?

It would need to be a safe place where people can relax into who they are. A place where people can be certain they would be heard.

Here in this place of unconditional acceptance, healing shall occur. Pedro might have revelations about his manipulative approach to life. In a flash, he’ll see that he’s been trying to create an income stream by impressing others, hoping that the “right” person would be impressed and help him become established.

Express unique creative spirit

Here in this place, Jane might have an “Aha!” moment around her shadow of indifference. It might be the catalyst for a renewed sense of vitality, vigour and enthusiasm. She might find her joie de vivre.

Within this house, each person’s unique perspective shall be valued. Hiroshi might hear Anton share some thoughts that clash with his worldview, but rather than dismissing Anton or pushing him away, Hiroshi might say, “Tell me more.”

Here is the place where people will allow themselves to express their unique creative spirit, to let the creativity that is their own and no one else’s flow through them and guide their expression.

Yes, in this house, people will value expressing who they are. Instead of imitating the genius of other souls, they will trailblaze a new path by beginning with their divine essence, by creating from the inside out.

In this house, transcendence shall take place. Jonathan shall transcend the beliefs that have always limited the range of possibilities he could see before him. Rita shall transcend the patterns of playing small.

What else do we need to tend to when we build this house for all of humanity? It needs to be a place where people feel welcome, just as they are as humans. Those who enter shall be shown hospitality, the kind of hospitality that reassures each one that they are free to be transparent, that there’s no need to hide. The kind of hospitality that says, “Please drink from this cup, no matter where your journey has taken you in years gone by. Please join us in our quest to purify ourselves inside and out.”

What if we’re being called to build a house of grief and celebration? A house where those who enter know that their tears are welcome, and their ecstasy as well. A spacious house, where room is given for each feeling to be felt. A house where every morn, when each one awakes, all are reminded of their essence and their beauty, and are invited to say “yes” to who they are in truth.

A house where we are allowed to dance

What if we’re being called to build a house upon the foundation of affirmation, to lay the floorboards down upon the rock that always wants each soul’s dignity to be honoured? Here, an older woman may play her lute and sing blissful hymns of praise. Her younger sister may listen in stillness and silence.

Perhaps the younger one will thank her older friend for being true to who she is, for singing out. Perhaps she’ll say, “I’m in the dumps, and yet you’ve shown me I am free to let all feelings ebb and flow. I know the day may come when I shall take a lute and sing in ecstasy a song of gratitude and breath. Thank you for sharing the gift of you.”

What if we’re being called to build a vast and glorious house, a house so vast that those who are in love with Guan Yin are welcome, as well as those who love Hafiz, Jesus, Rilke and Buddha. A house that has a dance floor in its centre, a dance floor where we are allowed to dance with Kali, Mother Mary and the ascended masters known to those on other planets.

A dance floor that is glad each time we place our feet upon her, so glad to receive us and to give us the support we need to move. A dance floor that exemplifies giving and receiving as one.

In the courtyard of this house, Wiccans shall draw down the moon. In the adjacent shed, alchemists shall turn lead to gold. Here, children can listen to a fox tell them to look at their beloveds through the eyes of their hearts. Here, we are invited to walk the path of beauty. In this house, we shall return to holy love.
