Pigeon walking - Joshua Bocher poetry

POEMS BY JOSHUA BOCHER: Performances in the Park, Weekend Itinerary, Hot Sweaty Sunday Evening

Performances in the Park

The subway distantly
Roaring,

Bashful musicians
Performing,

Starlings and sparrows
Socializing,

A black lab
Dozing,

A young woman
Crying,

The man next to her
Uncaring,

A pigeon on the ground
Hurrying

Twitching to meet
My wife and me,

The trees wiggle
Their fingers at us.

Weekend Itinerary

Sleep in. Make love. Read books.
Go out. Meet friends. Gulp beer.
Buy food. Eat food. Comb cat.
Work out. Go for a walk
And talk and talk and talk.
Meditate. Shower. Sit back.
Let the breeze touch our legs.

Hot, Sweaty Sunday Evening

The heavy humid heat
Rises, hangs over
The helpless air.

Like pebbles plopping
Down into an invisible pond
Again and again and again,

The fan on the floor pulsates,
Massaging the ground beneath
Our cat sleeping comfortably.

Suddenly, a sense of heaviness
Invades my chest, surely
A sign of melancholy.

The pressure mounting, I try
To cram one last moment
Of pleasure before I

Evaporate into the work week.
How frustrating it is to forget
To forget time in the moment.
