Buddha statue in front of moon, with tree

POEMS BY JAMES FARWELL: 8 haiku about living authentically in the moment

I.

We are where we are,
acknowledging what is now,
this is our true home.

II.

Being present means
no conflicts, anxieties,
no past, no future.

III.

Living each heartbeat,
this moment is all there is,
the future is now.

IV.

The angst of self-doubt,
the pain of isolation,
estranged from our Source.

V.

Transitory truth,
the ends justify the means,
is the sun the moon?

VI.

Unconsciousness is
seeing in mirrors dimly,
blind to our Essence.

VII.

An unconscious world,
walking up the down staircase,
living illusions.

VIII.

Caring hearts, kind speech,
Lives of service, compassion,
Renew humankind. (inspired by a teaching of the Buddha)

  1. Thank you, James!
I was HAPPY reading your haikus!
    Such “bite-sized” literary/spiritual nuggets.
Easy to digest. I appreciate something
so straightforward in this often confusing world!
I may read them again, just to have the simplicity once more
of taking in a clear “Wisdom Message.”

I’m thankful for the friends I have made here at The Mindful Word.
    You are one of them.
    Blessings!
    Max
ps: I have a poem coming out here in a few days that a couple of yours (like the “up-the-down-staircase” one, brought to my mind. It’s about shoveling “the snow we can see, and the snow we can’t see.”
    ONWARD!
