MODERN MERLINS: The magicians of our time

Do you remember the original Doctor Who? This British science fiction series produced by the BBC ran for 26 years, between 1963 and 1989. The show followed the journeys of its main character Doctor Who, an eccentric scientist from another planet who travelled through time and space in a craft that could take on various shapes to blend into its environment.

On Earth, it morphed mostly into an old-fashioned blue telephone booth that was larger on the inside than it was on the outside.

As a child, I was captivated by the concept of travelling through dimensions, time and space. The idea of a vehicle that was not only a safe haven and could travel anywhere in the universe, but whose interior was much larger than its exterior, was fascinating. It was strangely comforting to think that such things might be possible; both the time and space travelling aspects, as well as the potential of something seemingly relatively small that was, in fact, much larger from a different perspective.

The universe of Doctor Who was full of exciting possibilities, transcending potentials, mysterious unknowns, wonderment, discovery, adventure, things to explore and new worlds to visit. An exciting universe that I imagined was mine to live in as well.

In the spirit of Doctor Who

I grew up in The Netherlands—aka Holland—in a paradigm that was predominantly based on a very down-to-earth, three-dimensional view of reality. A reality that was mostly limited to the physical world, with very little room for a more expanded understanding of how that reality is actually formed or created.

As a highly intuitive and sensitive child, I was aware of many subtle aspects of the world and the people around me that others seem to be completely unaware of. My reality was full of messages hidden in the spaces between words, subtle feelings that arose inside me and whispers far beyond the depth of silence.

For instance, I could always tell when I met people where they were at, especially emotionally. I could sense harmony or disharmony instantly, whether people were happy, sad, angry, jealous, balanced, insecure, confused or dishonest. Often, I could tell whether there was physical pain as well, as my awareness was automatically drawn to those areas in their bodies as if I wanted to lay my hands on those spots. And during the wee hours of the night, in the darkness of my room, I felt surrounded by mysterious whispers and presences that no one but me seemed to be aware of.

In the spirit of Doctor Who, I found refuge in my bed. Under my blankets, where I felt safe, powerful and unlimited, I inhabited larger dimensions of possibility and creation. In my reality, magic was normal and the only limitations to what I could create were the boundaries of my own imagination.

It took me well into my adulthood and beyond the physical borders of my country to meet others who had the consciousness and vocabulary pertaining to the reality that I had experienced as being solely mine so far. I met people in Thailand who talked about ‘energy,’ ‘soul’ and ‘aura,’ words that were unfamiliar growing up. They described me as an intuitive, a psychic, not strange or weird, just ahead of the curve and already attuned to a multidimensional reality that was emerging.

Those whispers that I had been hearing all my life were about to get louder, for everyone to hear, and I was here to support the new paradigms as they emerged and to help construct bridges between the realms of Spirit, the multidimensional Universe and the domain of mundane experience, the 3-D world.

The universe: Waves and particles of energy

Fast forward to today—magic is about to become the new real as we are arriving at the notion that our reality stretches beyond the boundaries of 3-D. We are on the threshold of boldly going where we have not gone before as collective humanity, into the mysterious and mostly unexplored realm of multidimensionality, the space of subtle energies and unlimited potential.

Accessing our innate ability to perceive these subtle layers of multidimensionality awakens our potential to work what our ancestors might have called magic, and gives us the resources to work miracles.

When we dive into the mere concept of ‘magic’ and what it really is, we could (re)define it as anything that we can experience, yet cannot explain rationally or within an existing paradigm. Of course, many things that once were considered unexplainable and even magical have found themselves, over time, to be explored, analyzed, understood and described through an ever-evolving science.

We are about to embrace the fundamental truth that nothing is really solid and that everything, in fact, is energy.

Fire, rainbows, sunsets and sunrises, magnetics, flight and many healing modalities are all examples of this. They all, at one time, evolved from a mystery into a fundamental part of how we understand our world and our reality. Once they were embraced by science, they became part of our existing paradigm.

We are now collectively at the cusp of perhaps the biggest shift in human development. We are about to embrace the fundamental truth that nothing is really solid and that everything, in fact, is energy. Everything. Not only is the stuff around you energy, you are as well—your body, your thoughts and even your words! Isn’t that amazing?

It turns out that the whole universe is made of nothing but waves and particles of energy. And because everything is energy, everything is connected as well. After all, it is all the same thing; energy is energy, the only difference is how it behaves.

Everything is connected

We can understand that because everything is connected, everything is therefore in constant interaction with everything else. You are constantly interacting with everything around you and even everything inside of you (remember that your thoughts and feelings are energy as well), and in return, everything is interacting with you. It is all one big dance of energy that is constantly morphing, changing, arranging and rearranging itself, all connected in one vast field of energy.

This field is sometimes referred to as the quantum field or the field of unlimited possibilities. In a 3-D model of reality that is form-based, we understand that our actions—as in our physical actions—cause an effect. In a multidimensional reality—in which we know that everything is energy—we realize that even what we say, what we think and what we believe causes an effect as well.

Energy behaves according to the law of attraction. Perhaps you have heard of it? It basically means that similar energies attract each other—in short, like attracts like. Just like we often look for friends and partners in our lives who have the same interests as we do, energy attracts things that are of the same energy.

All energy emanates a vibration at a certain frequency, and will attract similar energy with the same vibration and frequency. So your thoughts and feelings are going to attract people and circumstances that align and resonate with those thoughts and feelings. What you pay attention to, or where you focus your attention, is where you direct your energy and what you are going to create more of.

All this means that we play a much larger role in the unfolding of our lives than our current paradigm teaches us or has us believe. We are at the core of everything that happens in our lives. Our state of being (the totality of what we think and how we feel) is our point of attraction that the universe responds to when aligning us with people and circumstances that match that state of being.

What it takes for us to fully step into the new multi-dimensional reality that is opening up to us is realizing the capabilities we all inherently possess to access other levels of consciousness. These capabilities allow us to participate in the ongoing creation of our experiences—our lives—as we move our awareness between the 3-D and multidimensional layers of reality.

Although we cannot always control our circumstances, we can control how we react to those circumstances. We can pay attention to our thoughts and feelings that arise because of them, and realize that ultimately, it is our perspective that determines how we feel, not our circumstances.

By consciously changing our perspective on the basis of an expanded reality that includes all the information we find when we turn inward and tap into the multidimensional realms, we can change how we feel and thus what we attract more of. This is the ‘glass half full, or glass half empty’ principle that allows us to choose between an experience of abundance and peace or one of lack and disharmony.

Our choice will be at the core of the vibration we send out to the universe and that the universe is going to respond to. By becoming aware of our thoughts, our feelings and our beliefs, we can become co-creators of our lives. Our magical abilities derive from our awareness of the possibilities that emerge through our interactions with the energetic field, ourselves and each other.

This makes us Modern Merlins—the magicians of our time.
