POEMS BY R. CHRISTOPHE RYBER: Ascension, On a Dark Night, Synchronicity

Ascension

Regret and painful choices scream
Their mournful song into my ears
Like banshees howling in a dream
Intoxin’d by Medusa’s tears
But still I climb into the pines
Each step even further in the mist
Ascension leaves the past behind
To wander where I dare not whist
For independence has its cost
Not reckoned in such lofty climes
Transcendence surely can’t be lost
Within the branches of the pines
And now the summit sits in shroud
Above the highest sacred grove
For here at last amid the clouds
I’m someone they can’t disapprove

On a Dark Night

Moonlight streams down through the leaves
Lunar shafts from Dian’s bow
Pierce my soul that sighs and grieves
Trembling within the glow
Shining through my darkened thoughts
Wondering where you are tonight
Piercéd by the Cherub’s shots
Or wrapped in someone else’s might
But hearts are not so easily read
So peace and sleep my soul have fled.

Synchronicity

Up, down, strange, charm, truth, beauty –
Swirling triads of intimate colour,
Positive and negative in neutrality
Ionic embraces shrouded in clouds of probability
Cytoplasmic swirling about the genetic maelstrom
Synaptic lightning engendering desire
Blood pounding, breath rasping, fingers grasping
Two pulses playing counterpoint to staccato drops,
And brilliant electric exchange
Amid thunderous clamour
Swirling white and serene
Across the green and blue orb
Quiet in the void of white diamond fire
As it dances with thermonuclear brilliance
Through the fabric of reality,
Outward toward infinity.
