Art and Love

“A work of art is a confession.”
–Albert Camus

Sometimes on Parnassus
the light
is so weak
I cannot read the leaves
of my tea
nor the sticky pages
of my
interminable and ecstatic
autobiography. I
picture you
beside me, drawing us in-
to your diary,
smudgy little sketches, al-
most human, almost human.

Morning Path

Cooler today and the air washed
by overnight rains. From the
front porch I can see for miles. The
songs of birds are incandescent.
They light the way to the next wane.

We are the River

The river is languorous
because we want the river
to be languorous.
The western boundary of
our city, muddy and
almost indistinct.
Wavy, like old TV.
We don’t want sharp
edges. We don’t want
to know where we stop.
Where we is no longer we.
