Learning The Dance Of Trust

I’ve learnt something of the world we chose to create.
Working jobs with long hours, just to make a buck.
Actionable motions that neither light the soul
Nor make an impact.

The lie being told so that we stay—
Stay small.
Stay powerless.
Stay feeding the man who gives so little,
Yet demands so much.

Yet the heart knows,
It knows.
Knows this isn’t for us.
It knows of a deep yearning
That tells us to wake up,
To leave these spaces
And create what matters.

The fear of the unknown,
Of spaces we haven’t been,
Not realizing—
These spaces are what truly set us free.

Freedom never felt before is awkward,
Like a toddler taking its first steps,
Fumbling before getting its bearing,
Learning to stride,
To walk with confidence,
Then running to claim what’s ours,
Running towards something we call home.

Beautiful Storm

What made her beautiful?

Was it the way she looked at you?

Like she knew all your secrets

And loved you anyway

Was it the way she danced?

Like no one was watching

Because she knew her soul spoke to her

And her body listened

Was it the tender way she held space?

Because she knew

Every voice mattered

And is worth hearing

But what made her the most beautiful

Is she didn't shy away

From her own pain

She felt its depths

No matter who understood

And who didn't

She let out her rage

Her sadness

her grief

And her heartbreak

Because she knew

She couldn't go back to a life

Where she didn't feel

So she befriended her wild

Sent it love

So that she could show up

As unconditional

I know you may feel imperfect in your own skin

I know you may judge the very words that leave your lips

I know you may feel your actions don’t measure up and a need to rectify your choices

I know through all this, the dark of night comes and brings with it self hatred, shame, guilt and loathsome

And that in the dark, you feel you need more control, or a deep understanding that you have a lack of.

I know in our humanity, we look for perfection. We look towards the light in the hopes that it may teach us more about ourselves

We forget that through the dark, we find forgiveness.

Through the dark, we have a chance to go deeper with our love, to reach those parts within us that haven’t been touched with its gentle care.

I know you are striving to be something that you already are.

In the tapestry of life, We feel regrets. Allow it to teach us to love ourselves more, not less.

Take a walk and allow the trees to remind you of the gentleness you hold

Allow the crisp air to remind you of the purpose you carry

Allow the sunshine to remind you of the shadow and light that make you whole

Allow your heart to remind you of the forgiveness it embodies for all shades of you

You are an ever evolving symphony

What is love?

Isn’t it a fleeting moment of appreciation?

A gentle presence that breathes in beauty?

I think of love as a catalyst for creation

An anchor for empathy

An entangled thread of curiosity

Love is what has been long sought after

Searched for between words

Held onto within an embrace

Felt between a gaze

Who are we,

But a living example of love in all forms?

Love in the depths of shadow

Love in the depths of service

Pulling from strings

Of a heartbeat

I search for love

And reach for its soft touch

And maybe I’ll finally see

Love is not to be reached for

But found within me

Oh! It's not clear to me whether you can only share one painting per post. But I've tried to share two and only see one, so I guess the limit MB limit is not so high. But ok! I did this piece way back in 1989 while living in New York City. I called it "Angel of the Staten Island Ferry", having sketched this violin busker on the boat as he indeed "took me to heaven" with his music, and then painted it later. I think this speaks to the main theme of paintings I've been inspired to do...though the symbols are (naturally) different every time.

I'm extremely interested in the whole subject of Creativity, which ties in with my interest in Jungian Psychology. My two favorite books on the topic of creativity are ART AND THE CREATIVE UNCONSCIOUS by Erich Neumann, an Israeli Jungian analyst, and the more recent JUNG ON ART by a Dutch writer named by Tjeu van den Berk. I relate strongly to the concept of the "Ego-Self Axis" that came via a Jungian author, Edward Edinger, in the '50s or maybe '60s. Basically, the conscious person is the ego, or you could call it "consciousness", and the Self is (and this is more or less true of most Jungian writing), the totality of the psyche, conscious AND unconscious...pretty close to "the God within," which I believe Jung called it once, or came close to calling it.

Creativity is a tough racket, for me. OK, that's a joke. It's one of the few things that seems NOT to be a racket, to me. But inherently, one...I should speak for myself alone, actually...I tend to run dry from time to time. I have to "get to a new place" to find fresh springs of creativity within...to do so, I have to struggle with the habits that tend to limit me...habits of thought and behavior.

But it seems there is no alternative TO that struggle!

I'm interested in most things that people interested in created expression have to say about the subject!
