DREAM

I was in some dystopian setting, faced with puzzles and mazes. A friend from school who recently badly damaged his knee was there and he had a guide dog, a white Labrador, which he gave to me for help. The dog ran up to me and was very affectionate.

I was then at the start of a puzzle/maze in which I had to sort out coloured straws in some order, and then there was a series of rooms which moved about while I had to try and get out. Then I was hiding behind a rock from something and the dog was with me. The dog was submerging his face in water so we wouldn’t be seen.

INTERPRETATION

Hello Laura,

Your puzzle dream speaks to the need for you to identify why you’re finding yourself in dystopian settings. A dystopian setting symbolizes a place in the mind where everything is unpleasant or bad.

The cause has to do with the underlying thought that attracts such circumstances into your existence. The outer world simply reflects our inner world, the world of our thoughts.

The friend with a damaged knee is an inner aspect of you that’s having some trouble moving forward. What is the quality that this friend brings to mind when you think of him? This would be the quality that you’re experiencing difficulty with at this time, which is causing you to experience a form of stagnation.

The white dog symbolizes a productive habit that’s helping you get through this inner turmoil. In your dream, you also call upon your will, symbolized by the rock, to protect yourself from the environment.

APPLICATION

The message brought about in your dream is for you to pay attention to your thoughts and attitudes.

A single belief, put into practice over time, becomes an attitude. There are attitudes that you’re fostering within yourself that lead you to places of distress, where everything is unpleasant.

The symbols of the puzzle and maze are significantly directing your attention to the need to identify exactly which thoughts cause you to find yourself in places of turmoil. You have a helpful habit (white dog) and will (rock) to call upon to get you through these states of mind. However, the dream is asking you to realize that you don’t have to experience these states in the first place.

I’d examine any triggers that might cause you to go to these dystopian places. Would it be something you’ve inherited from your family of origin, or are there specific things that others say or do that cause you to disconnect from the state of peace?

Continue writing down your dreams, as they purely reflect inner messages from your subconscious mind. Each dream provides a snapshot of perceptions and attitudes that transpired in your mind 24 to 48 hours prior to you having the dream.

As certain symbols reoccur in your dreams, you’ll be able to better identify the mental attitude that is causing your distress.

May your dreams illuminate the inner you…
