You’ve done the talk therapy. You’ve done affirmations, positive thinking and read all the self-help books. Too often willpower seems like “won’t power.” You’re still not where you want to be in life. Our lives run on autopilot; we automatically repeat the same habitual patterns every day. From health to phobias, from relationships to career or athletic performance, our lives are running on outdated beliefs. As a result of past negative programming, we often think and behave in self-defeating ways. What is amazing is the staggering amount of time and money people will spend to change, to transform, to alter their current life’s challenges and circumstances. Our beliefs are held in our subconscious minds. If we hold beliefs that are contrary to our goals —which were created in our conscious mind—reaching them will be very hard and in most cases, impossible. Dr. Bruce Lipton says, “The major problem is that people are aware of their conscious beliefs and behaviours, but not of subconscious beliefs and behaviours. Your subconscious beliefs are working either for you or against you, but the truth is that you are not controlling your life, because your subconscious mind supersedes all conscious control.”

Even well-intentioned, motivated and committed individuals often sabotage themselves because the subconscious mind harbours negative beliefs that are contrary to success. Failure to shift the way they think and believe leaves them engaged in self-defeating behaviours that imprison them in a swirl of mediocrity. As Carl Jung once said, “Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate.”
